The Role
The Director of Learning & Curriculum (Secondary) is a strategic senior leadership position responsible for shaping curriculum, pedagogy and assessment excellence across Years 7-12 at St Andrews Lutheran College.
Reporting to the Deputy Principal and serving as a key member of the Secondary Executive Team, this role provides whole-school leadership in teaching and learning, driving continuous improvement, innovation and coherence across all learning areas.
This opportunity arises following the appointment of the current Director of Learning & Curriculum to the position of Deputy Principal, reflecting the significance and influence of this role within the College. As a result, we are seeking an exceptional educational leader who can build upon a strong foundation while helping shape the next chapter of learning excellence at St Andrews.
This position is ideally suited to an experienced and aspirational educational leader who is passionate about student learning, capable of influencing practice at scale, and committed to developing both staff and students to thrive in a rapidly changing world.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead the ongoing development and implementation of the College's Pedagogical Model and Teaching & Learning Framework, embedding evidence-informed practices across Years 7-12.
Provide strategic leadership for curriculum design, delivery and review, ensuring alignment with ACARA and QCAA requirements and strong learning progression across all subject areas.
Oversee assessment quality, moderation, reporting practices and all QCAA endorsement, confirmation and academic integrity processes.
Drive a culture of data-informed improvement through the effective use of NAPLAN, PAT, internal assessment and QCAA data to enhance teaching practice and student outcomes.
Build the instructional leadership capability of Heads of Department through coaching, mentoring, professional dialogue and collaborative moderation.
Foster an agency-driven learning culture where students are empowered through authentic, engaging and purposeful learning experiences.
Lead the effective integration of educational technologies and guide responsible, ethical and curriculum-aligned AI-enabled practice.
Strengthen collaboration across faculties, promoting consistency, innovation and shared accountability for learning outcomes.
Contribute strategically as a member of the Secondary Executive Team to the broader leadership and future direction of the College.
Maintain a teaching allocation (approximately 0.1-0.2 FTE) to remain connected to contemporary classroom practice and student learning.
Selection Criteria:
The successful applicant will have:
A genuine commitment to the Christian ethos of St Andrews and the ability to lead in a manner that reflects Lutheran values of service, grace, integrity, community and holistic care.
Demonstrated success leading curriculum design and pedagogical improvement across Years 7–12, including strengthening vertical and horizontal coherence, renewing teaching frameworks, and ensuring alignment.
Proven capability in assessment design, moderation and QCAA processes (endorsement, confirmation, integrity), alongside the ability to analyse and use data (NAPLAN, PAT, internal assessments, QCAA analytics) to drive targeted instructional improvement and monitor student progress.
Evidence of designing and leading professional learning, coaching and mentoring staff, and building instructional leadership capacity in Heads of Department and teaching teams.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to build trust, foster collaboration, lead communities of practice, and work effectively across faculties and stakeholder groups.
Demonstrated capacity to lead innovation in teaching and learning, including effective use of digital tools, the LMS, and emerging AI‑informed practices that enhance curriculum, pedagogy, assessment and academic integrity.
