Position: College Cleaner

Load: Part Time Time (20 hrs/week)

Employment Basis: Permanent


College Cleaner

The College cleaner is responsible for maintaining a high standard of cleanliness and hygiene across the College campus. This role ensures that learning and working environments are safe, orderly, and welcoming for students, staff, and visitors. Working both independently and as part of a team, the Cleaner performs routine and specialised cleaning tasks in accordance with established procedures and safety guidelines. The position requires flexibility to work outside regular hours, including early mornings, evenings, or during school events.

Key Functions, Accountabilities, Responsibilities and Deliverables:
Daily Cleaning Duties
  • Clean and sanitise toilets, classrooms, hallways, and communal areas.
  • Sweep, mop, and vacuum floors.
  • Dust and wipe furniture, fixtures, and high surfaces.
  • Empty waste bins and dispose of rubbish appropriately.
  • Restock consumables (e.g. toilet paper, soap, paper towels).
  • Clean windows and glass surfaces.
Specialised and Periodic Tasks
  • Operate and maintain cleaning equipment safely.
  • Perform soft washing of external areas.
  • Respond promptly to spills and accidents involving bodily fluids (as required).
  • Support other staff in maintaining a clean and organised environment.
Safety & Compliance
  • Report maintenance or safety issues to the Supervisor.
  • Ensure security of rooms, buildings, and equipment during cleaning.
  • Follow chemical safety protocols and complete required inductions.
  • Understand and apply Safety Data Sheet (SDS) information.
Professional Competencies
  • Demonstrated experience in commercial cleaning, ideally within an educational environment.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining high cleanliness standards.
  • Physically capable of performing cleaning tasks, including lifting, standing, walking, and operating equipment.
  • Effective time management and task prioritisation to ensure cleaning duties are completed within allocated timeframes.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Proven reliability in attendance, punctuality, and consistency of work quality.
  • Knowledge of safe chemical handling and appropriate storage procedures.
  • Completion of relevant safety inductions, including Chemical Induction (Hunters).
