We acknowledge and pay respect to the Kombumerri people who are the traditional custodians of the land on which we work and learn. We would like to pay our respects to all Elders past, present and emerging as they hold the memories, traditions, culture and hopes of our Indigenous people.

At St Andrews, we offer our students a valuable opportunity to engage in a Year 11 and 12 Sport Traineeship. This program provides practical experience along with the attainment of a Certificate III in Sport and Recreation, equipping students with essential skills and knowledge in the field.

Key Features of the Sport Traineeship

Practical Experience

Students in the Year 11 and 12 Sport Traineeship actively participate in conducting training sessions across multiple sports before and after school, working with students from various year levels. This hands-on experience allows trainees to develop their coaching abilities, communication skills, and leadership qualities. They play a crucial role in guiding and supporting their fellow students in their sporting pursuits.

Tournament Participation

Once connected with teams, trainees have the opportunity to attend tournaments as coaches, providing guidance and motivation to the teams they support. In some cases, trainees may also engage in mid-week or weekend coaching of club teams, expanding their experience and impact beyond the school environment.

Involvement in School Sports Programs

Trainees contribute significantly to the preparation, organisation, and smooth running of the Year 7 to 12 Thursday afternoon sports program and the Year 5 and 6 Junior School sports program. They assist in facilitating sports activities, ensuring the programs run efficiently, and promoting a positive and inclusive environment for all participants.

Assistance with Carnivals

Trainees also play an integral role in supporting St Andrews and Representative Carnivals, including Swimming, Cross Country, and Athletics events. Their contributions range from assisting with logistical preparations to actively participating in the smooth execution of these important sporting events, fostering a sense of community and school spirit.

We value the dedication, leadership, and enthusiasm our Sport Trainees bring to the school community. They make a meaningful impact, inspire others, and foster a love for sports and recreation.

During my traineeship, I've gained valuable experiences. Upon successfully completing my course, I will earn my Certificate III in Sport and Recreation, yet there's more to it than just a certification. Along the way, I've made many meaningful connections with the students and built great friendships. I have learnt so much about coaching, and from the help and guidance of my trainers I have have successfully coached at a South Coast level. This opportunity has given me such a bright future and I am thankful for the opportunities I have received.
