Library Technician
The primary objectives of the library technician are the processes of description, subject analysis, classification, and authority control of library materials.
Cataloguers serve as the "foundation of all library service, as they are the ones who organise information in such a way as to make it easily accessible".
Key Functions, Accountabilities, Responsibilities and Deliverables:
Customer Service
- Deliver high quality customer service to all users of the Library in a timely and friendly manner.
- Assist students and staff in locating, creating and/or integrating print and digital content to enrich student learning.
- Facilitate learning and support staff to develop relevant appealing content for students.
Centre Operations
- Accession and deaccession of all resources across the college, including Performing Arts collection.
- Maintain the library catalogue and other digital platforms
- Textbook hire management
- Creation of digital and non-digital resources in collaboration with teachers, including library guides.
- Will also be required to complete Library Aide tasks when required.
- Willing and able to adjust hours according to college needs
- Assist with developing and enacting the library’s Vision and Strategic Plan.
- Escalate parent queries/requests to the teacher librarian or Deputy Principal.
Other Duties
- Maintain high standards of student behaviour.
- Support teachers in assisting students to reach their academic, social and emotional goals.
- Assist in any College events as required.
- Attend scheduled meetings.
- Any other duties as required by the Head of Library Services, Deputy Principal and/or Principal.
Educational/Vocational Qualifications
- Certificate IV in Library and Information Services or higher.
- Current First Aid Certificate.
- Current Positive Notice Blue Card for Child Related Employment.
- Must satisfy all visa requirements for working in Australia.
Vocational Experience
- The Library Technician is required to demonstrate experience of:
- A high level of expertise in the use of Oliver by Softlink technologies (or equivalent).
- Working in a school resource centre and/or public library setting.

- Attention to detail so that the library database is expertly maintained, and the resources are easily found.
- Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to interact confidently and sensitively with staff, parents and students.
- Highly developed customer service skills and a demonstrated commitment to ongoing implementation of emerging technologies, supporting innovative learning approaches for programs (curricular and co-curricular).
- Highly developed time management and organisational skills with the ability to work effectively under pressure, multi-task and deliver high quality outcomes within specified timeframes.
- Comprehensive understanding of and ability to apply and use library management systems.
- Competent in the use of the Microsoft Office suite of products including Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams and OneNote with the ability to apply these skills to other applications in educational settings.
