Sport Traineeship

St Andrews students in Year 11 can engage in a Sports Traineeship. This not only gives them practical experience but they are also able to gain a Certificate III in Sport and Recreation. During the traineeship, students will increase their confidence when initiating activities and be able to respond appropriately when conducting sports programs. Many practical opportunities occur during the school day such as attendance at tournaments. Trainees are required to manage their time effectively ensuring it is not detrimental to their school studies.

The traineeship involves conducting training sessions in Futsal, Netball and Touch Football before and after school with both Junior and Middle School students. Once connected with teams, students will attend tournaments acting as coaches and where applicable engage in mid-week or weekend coaching of club teams. Trainees will also be allocated a Fitness Gym cleaning session during gym opening hours. Another major aspect of their role is to assist in the preparation, organisation and smooth running of the Year 7 to 12 Thursday afternoon sports program and the Year 5 and 6 Junior School sports program. Students will also assist with St Andrews and Representative Carnivals including Swimming, Cross Country and Athletics.

The traineeship requires students to complete a series of modules through AFL Sports Ready. In addition to this, students will need to complete 380 practical hours. Each trainee is paid for every hour they complete and submit timesheets weekly.
