Sports Excellence

St Andrews is committed to providing comprehensive programs in our three signature sports:
- Touch Football
- Netball
- Futsal
Our sports excellence philosophy is about nurturing each individual within the team to reach their full potential. We aim to develop athletes who can apply their skill set to a specific sport in a supportive, fun and motivating environment.
Once selected in the team, students are afforded opportunities to train before and during the school day with highly experienced coaches. For each of these sports, multiple tournaments are entered, including the Vicki Wilson Championship, the Queensland Independent Secondary Schools Netball Carnival (QISSN), Futsal Australia competitions as well as All Hallows’ School Touch Football Carnival, Ormeau Woods Touch Competition and Qld All Schools Touch Football Tournament.
All students in our excellence programs have the opportunity to participate in the FitLab program. This exciting initiative provides sport-specific and individualised strength and conditioning programs as well as injury prevention workouts designed by fitness experts.
Whilst it is not a requirement, students are strongly encouraged to play in a College team in available local club competitions for each of our signature sports. St Andrews has teams ranging from Under 6 to Open mixed in the Palm Beach Touch Competitions held on Thursday and Friday evenings. Club Netball and Futsal opportunities will also be available where local competitions can be sourced.
St Andrews is a Touch Football Academy School
In 2021 the College was officially endorsed as a Touch Football Academy School. This is a highly sort after accreditation requiring evidence of high levels of coach expertise and effective implementation of programs for players, referees and coaches. Currently we have 12 teams playing regularly in the Palm Beach Touch competition on Friday evenings. Our before school training commences in Term One and continues through to the Qld All Schools Competition. In Year 7 and Year 9, Touch Football subject based electives can be selected by interested and capable students to enhance their skill and game understanding.
Touch Q Performance Academy
Commencing in 2022, the College will be hosting a Q Performance Academy. This is a six-session clinic that caters for athletes aged 11-18 years. The program targets the Talent and Developing Elite stages of Junior Development, focusing on enhancing skills in modified Touch Football games and concepts. Athletes are exposed to game specific drills and concepts that increase in intensity and complexity throughout the program to challenge decision making and skillset while in a game based scenarios. We recommend the Q Performance Academy for Touch Football players looking to enhance their skillset and execute at a high level. All sessions are delivered by QTF staff and cost only $100 per person which includes QTF apparel.
